Tour type: Adventurous
Request more information Escape from the ordinary and nourish your soul. Treat yourself to a breathtaking weekend encounter with some of South Africa’s most inspirational natural splendour. Spend 2 days walking the moderately paced 37km guided nature trail from Cape Point to the historic Simon’s Town. Relax in the evenings while enjoying the cosy hospitality of a spectacular ocean view guesthouse, and then return to nature each day with wildlife sightings including the Chacma baboon troops, Bontebok and Southern Right Whales.
“The Chacma Baboon troops on the Cape Peninsula are the only protected population of this species in Africa. They subsist on fruits, roots, honey, bulbs, insects and scorpions. During low tide, they may be seen roaming the beaches, feeding on sandhoppers and shellfish, behaviour believed to be unusual in primates.”
Friday: Arrive in Simon’s Town, settle into your guesthouse accommodation. Meet your fellow hikers in the cosy pub and relax over a delicious home-cooked dinner.
Saturday: After a hearty breakfast, transfer to Cape Point and the start of the trail. Today’s walk winds along the rugged Cape Point cliff tops, meanders down to the beach and shoreline before rising to traverse inland of the iconic Judas Peak. Return to guesthouse for tea. Traditional South African braai (BBQ) for dinner.
Sunday: From Smitswinkel Bay, the trail ascends the spine of the towering Swartruggen (Black Back) mountains offering fantastic views throughout the day, before finally sweeping down to Simon’s Town and your guest lodging. Enjoy a farewell tea as you part with friends old and new.
Please note - A moderate level of fitness is required for walking the trail that takes 6-8 hours of easy paced walking per day.
