The Overberg stretches from the mountain range east of the Helderberg Basin to just east of the Breede River mouth. From June to November the coastal area acts as a playground and nursery for the Southern Right Whale and provides for the world's best land based whale watching spots.
The Overberg is known for it's natural beauty and outdoor activities, from hiking, horse-riding, hit the trails through the richest fynbos veld in the world! Here´s plenty to stir your sense of adventure" from gentle walks in the mountains to energetic sandboarding and river rafting to adrenaline-pumping hang gliding, scuba and shark cage diving and more. Fresh water angling, sailing, river rafting and canoeing on our inland waterways to catching the waves, or just bask on the beaches along our unspoiled coast. The southern most tip of Africa features in this region at Cape Agulhas and where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet, officially. Like all regions in this part of South Africa, a well established wineroute needs to be explored. Accommodation can be found in all the little villages with Hermanus providing the more upmarket accommodation.
